Berthold Zilly é Professor da FU Berlin e foi Professor visitante da USP e da UFSC. Traduziu OS SERTÕES para a língua alemã (Suhrkamp Verlag), transformando o livro num sucesso editorial na Alemanha. Traduziu ainda o O TRISTE FIM DE POLICARPO QUARESMA, de Lima Barreto, e LAVOURA ARCAICA, de Raduan Nassar. Há alguns anos iniciou a esperada tradução de GRANDE SERTÃO: VEREDAS. É autor de diversos ensaios e artigos teóricos sobre a tradução.
